English: Incomplete Medieval lead alloy discoidal pilgrim's hand mirror, probably 15th century. Object consists of a lead alloy disc with a central circular recess to accomodate the mirror fragment, now missing. The frontage of the mirror frame is decorated with rings of decoration, the inner most being a thin ring of 3mm with radial sunburst spikes, the second ring is 5.91 mm wide and has 'celtic' spiral work with pellets. Third ring is 6.11mm wide and contains pelta shapes alternating in orientation with pellets in spaces. There is then another thin border of pellets and a plain outer ring with a raised edge. The reverse of the disc has a central boss, the reverse of the frontal recess decorated with a sexafoil flower and pellets. There are two contentric rings runnning around the circumference of the disc. The object has a handle emerging from the edge of the dis, this consists of a central shaft, that is flattened and has two fullers that run the length of it on the obverse side, the reverse has a longitudinal ridge running the length of it. upon either side of this handle are two spiral foliate decorations.

The object is damaged as the end of the handle may have been lost. The disc has been distorted in places and there is a large tab on the disc rim possibly from a casting sprue. It is dark grey in colour, almost black.

There are no direct parallels to this object, the closest available being, SF-109D27 on the PAS database.
